Problem #11. Large Negative Tunnel Impact On Communities

  1.  Officials estimate construction of 2-3 mile tunnel under Del Mar would take at least 7 years, but given the sensitive coastal location 10 years+ is a very realistic possibility.
  2. Some homes and/or business will be "acquired" (i.e. via Eminent Domain) by the government to enable construction.
  3. Disruptions to businesses in Del Mar will be significant.
  4. Significant  decreased quality of life of residents due to construction related traffic, noise and pollution.

While some construction is critical and even welcomed, just about all construction has significant impacts that disrupt quality of life.

Tunnel route proposals

  1.  Officials estimate construction of 2-3 mile tunnel under Del Mar would take approximately 7 years

Tunnel route Details

  1.  All of the routes have significant negative impacts on Del Mar.

Tunnel route Comparative analysis ("Getting Railroaded")

  1. Without any input from residents or city council in Del Mar, SANDAG quickly narrowed down the 5 choices into 2: Camino Del Mar and Crest Canyon (Higher Speed). This is called "Getting Railroaded"
