benefit #2: Improve Community, culture & urban design

  1. Let's face it - everyone loves a green trail especially in urban and suburban areas. The Rail-To-Trail movement is helping to reconnect and revitalize communities in powerful ways.
  2. There have been over 2,000 different rail-to-trail conversions in the United States. 2 of the most prominent ones are the Atlanta Beltline and the New York High Line which have also become major community connectors and cultural centers.
  3. Balboa Park is San Diego's cultural center and the  #1 attraction with 14 million annual visitors. Think of the amazing community impact of a 61  mile rail-to-trail conversion (The Surf Line Trail!). The possibilities are limitless.

NEXT Benefit: #3 Save beaches and improve coastal access

The train and the train tracks have a very negative  impact on the coast from restricting access to destroying beaches. A trail does the exact opposite. LEARN MORE.
