PROBLEM #5. LOW FREIGHT VOLUME

BNSF Runs only 2 Freight Trains At Night in San Diego

BNSF Runs only 2 Freight Trains At Night in San Diego

BNSF Runs only 2 Freight Trains At Night in San Diego

BNSF is the sole rail freight operator in San Diego and on the coastal tracks and typically only runs 2 trains per day (during middle of the night). It is mostly restricted in running trains during the day because of the priority that the Coaster/Amtrak commuter trains have (the tracks are publicly owned and BNSF pays a lease to use them) . As a result rail volumes will never significantly increase.

Rail Is Only 0.5% of Total San Diego Freight Volume

Claims that the coastal rail line carries significant amount of freight is plainly not true. The tiny rail freight volume could easily be absorbed by Trucks.

LOSSAN Corridor

LOSSAN Freight Volume is Very Small

Claiming that the $1 Billion in freight carried on the "LOSSAN" corridor is very large and important is very misleading when the total freight in California is over $2.3 Trillion. LOSSAN freight only accounts for 0.04% of freight volume in California.
